Much more progress was made in today’s visit to the bank, but I still don’t have a final answer.
After nearly two hours of sharing papers, answering questions, and copying copies of documents, it was pointed out that not all of our needed paperwork was in order. Later in the afternoon, what should now be the rest of needed papers were dropped off, but of course our mortgage specialist was busy.
Back to the waiting game.
For an added bit of humor during today’s visit, while we were waiting a commercial account representative happened by and conversation eventually led to “and are your business accounts with us?” It was explained that they used to be, but many years ago we switched to a local bank (the one that was 2009′s first FDIC seizure.) The business banker proceeded to ask if it was ok to call on us later and talk about bringing our accounts back. My father, with his ever-sharp business acumen, said “Oh sure, we’re open to anything right now. Let’s see how this mortgage works out and we’d be happy to discuss it.”
“So I can call on you…. Wednesday maybe?”
“Well ask Deborah here on Wednesday how the mortgage went.”
We all laughed and moved on.
Once it became apparent that we needed more paperwork, we go to leave and the business banker starts in again, “Nice meeting you. I look forward to speaking with you on Wednesday. Well, I’ll ask Deborah first if I should call.”
It was a good laugh. Maybe you needed to be there. My dad’s crazy like that though with his business tactics. We don’t always see eye to eye on some practices, but I surely admire the way he can twist a deal in his favor.
